About the Department
The aim of the program is to train Physical Education and Sports Teachers who possess the cultural and professional competencies required to serve in both public and private schools throughout the country, including the most remote areas. These teachers will be capable of explaining and promoting the benefits of physical activity and sports to students in need of movement, self-awareness, and development, and will contribute to fostering a conscious and active lifestyle among all members of society.
To become a leading department that effectively utilizes all processes and resources to educate qualified physical education and sports teachers with an open-minded, entrepreneurial, and inquisitive academic potential that meets the needs of society; that contributes to the production of knowledge essential for the development of our country; that integrates scientific and technological advancements into primary and secondary education practices; and that contributes to social life through social responsibility and lifelong learning projects—producing knowledge, art, technology, and services on a universal scale to inspire and guide others.
The mission of the program is to educate qualified individuals who possess the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and competencies required by the teaching profession; who are capable of researching, questioning, and learning; who are committed to providing education, conducting research, and delivering services at international standards; and who embrace movement and a healthy lifestyle as a way of life. The program also aims to support their professional careers through postgraduate and doctoral studies in the field of physical education and sports teaching.
Turkish
The program provides education based on the nationally standardized curriculum of Physical Education and Sports Teaching. Through a variety of courses with different ECTS values, students receive both theoretical and practical training aimed at explaining, applying, teaching, and popularizing sports. The four-year program requires students to successfully complete courses totaling 240 ECTS credits to be eligible for graduation.
Students who meet the necessary requirements may also benefit from academic mobility opportunities through ERASMUS, MEVLANA, and FARABİ exchange programs with partner universities offering similar undergraduate programs.
The program is offered only in formal education and during daytime sessions.
Candidates wishing to apply for the Physical Education and Sports Teaching Program must have a minimum ranking of 800,000 in the Y-TYT exam (the placement score without additional points is considered).
Student admissions are carried out within the framework of the Special Talent Examination (ÖZYES) determined by the Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM).
For male and female candidates, placement scores are calculated separately, taking into account the Special Talent Exam Score (Physical Ability Test Score + Athletic Background Score), the High School GPA, and the YKS TYT Score. For candidates with disabilities, only the Physical Ability Test Score is considered.
Based on the calculated placement scores, candidates may make up to 24 program preferences. The ÖSYM places students centrally according to their scores, program quotas, and conditions.
Announcements and guidelines regarding the Special Talent Examination are published on the websites of both the Faculty and ÖSYM. Admission of international students is conducted in accordance with the “Süleyman Demirel University Associate and Undergraduate International Student Directive.” Application requirements and dates for international students can be followed on the university’s official website.
Süleyman Demirel University recognizes prior learning within the framework of the principle of lifelong learning. Courses previously completed at another higher education institution may be recognized and exempted from graduation requirements, provided that their learning outcomes are compatible with those of the registered program at Süleyman Demirel University.
Equivalency and exemption decisions are made by the School Board in accordance with relevant laws and regulations.
To graduate from the program, students must successfully complete at least 240 ECTS credits.
Students with a minimum GPA of 2.00 out of 4.00 are considered successful in courses with grades DD or DC. However, those with a GPA below 2.00 must retake and improve their grades in these courses.
Additionally, each student must successfully complete:
6 elective courses from the Professional Knowledge Elective Pool,
6 elective courses from the Field Knowledge Elective Pool, and
4 elective courses from the General Culture Elective Pool.
Graduates of the program are employed as Physical Education and Sports Teachers in public and private schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education (MoNE).
Graduates of this program who meet the entry requirements may continue their academic careers by enrolling in Master’s or Doctoral programs in the same or related fields.
