Former Referee Ali Palabıyık Meets with Students at Süleyman Demirel University
In an event organized by the Süleyman Demirel University Newcomers Club, former FIFA-certified referee Ali Palabıyık met with students in a talk titled "The Future of Turkish Refereeing." The opening speech of the program, held in the Conference Hall of the Faculty of Sports Sciences at Süleyman Demirel University, was given by the Dean of the Faculty of Sports Sciences, Prof. Dr. Hulusi Alp, who expressed his satisfaction with the high student participation. Stating that this meeting provided an important opportunity for students to share experiences, Prof. Dr. Alp thanked Palabıyık. In the talk, moderated by TÜGVA Isparta Provincial Representative Furkan Tülü, Ali Palabıyık emphasized that the refereeing profession is much more difficult than it seems, but also contains great passion and satisfaction. Palabıyık stated that he started his refereeing career as a hobby in 2000, that this process gradually turned into a professional career, and that he ended his career, which lasted approximately 24 years, in 2023. Touching upon the perception of the refereeing profession, Palabıyık stated that they sometimes face harsh criticism, saying, “We do one of the most debated professions in Turkey. Therefore, being criticized is part of the job. There have been those who were angry with me, even those who said harsh words. I respect them.” Emphasizing that the impact of refereeing is not limited to the field, Palabıyık continued: “The decisions we make affect not only a team, but also a city and the communities that support that team. This impact doesn't just affect one day; it can extend to work life and family relationships the next day.” At the end of the program, a gift was presented to Ali Palabıyık by the Dean of the Faculty of Sports Sciences, Prof. Dr. Hulusi Alp, and the SDÜ Yeniler Club.
